First Look: 'Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen'

E-mail Print PDF

Two years have passed since young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) saved the universe from a decisive battle between warring races of robotic aliens. Despite his extreme heroics, Sam is still an average teenager with everyday anxieties about heading to college, leaving behind his girlfriend Mikaela (Megan Fox), and separating from his parents (Kevin Dunn and Julie White) for the first time. Of course there is the additional burden of trying to explain his departure to his newest friend and guardian robot, Bumblebee. For Sam the goal is to lead a normal university lifestyle, but to do that, he must ignore his destiny.

EA confirms 'small team' working on Mirror's Edge 2

E-mail Print PDF

Speaking to VideoGamer at E3, Patrick Soderlund, Senior Vice President of EA Games Europe confirmed that a 'small team' at DICE is currently working on Mirror's Edge 2. Soderlund's comments are the first confirmation that a sequel to the parkour-inspired action adventure game is in development.

When asked about the future of the intellectual property, Soderlund responded by saying: "Mirror's Edge was a risky move. It was a bold move, a very innovative and inspiring move. The game wasn't perfect by any means. We would have liked the game to sell better even though the game has sold better than most people think."

He added: "You will see another Mirror's Edge for sure. It's just a matter of when that time is and what we do with it. We have a small team on it and I'm excited about what we do."

During a December 2008 conference call, CEO of Electronic Arts John Riccitiello assured fans that the developer still has faith in the new franchise. "Mirror's Edge is one that was very strongly reviewed, that one's going to go forward. We're probably going to look into some issues around the design to make sure strong IP is married with strong business."

Additional details or a possible release date were not forthcoming.

Activision threatens to stop supporting Sony with software

E-mail Print PDF

Bobby Kotick, CEO and President of Activision Blizzard has issued a statement threatening to drop Sony formats unless the manufacturer reduces the price for the PlayStation 3.

"They have to cut the price, because if they don't, the attach rates [the number of games each console owner buys] are likely to slow. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony," he said.

Asked when Sony titles may be pulled, Kotick said: "When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console — and the PSP [portable] too. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation." Kotick added that Activision Blizzard paid $500 million to Sony in royalties and other goods last year, which "probably still worked out at 400 percent of the profit they made".

Speaking with
VG247, Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter feels that Activision's threat is nothing but posturing.

Mozilla

Windows 7 packaging officially revealed

E-mail Print PDF

Microsoft has finally confirmed that the Windows 7 box art, first leaked back in May, is in fact the genuine design and will be used when Windows 7 hits the shelves in October.

In a
post over at the Windows 7 Team Blog, Brandon LeBlanc reveals that, as with the new operating system, the packaging has also been simplified since Windows Vista. Unlike the fairly complicated side opening three-step method required for the Vista box (obviously some consumers found it so confusing that Microsoft had to make a "how-to" article) the Windows 7 box will be a simple and more traditional DVD-style case. It also features less packaging materials to reduce environmental footprint.
